A human-centered approach to wedding photography

I’ve been an L.A. and Savannah wedding photographer for over 300 couples. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that a human-centered approach leads to the most meaningful, honest images. I do a mix of classic and editorial portraiture along with candid photos, but regardless of whether or not I gently pose you for a photo, my goal is to have it capture the essence of who you are in that moment. It’s a collaboration. I create space for you to feel safe and cared about so that you show yourself to me in all your perfectly imperfect humanness.

That kind of relationship doesn’t just manifest out of nowhere. I spend a lot of time getting to know you as a person before your wedding day. We’ll talk, text, and email. We’ll probably meet up for an engagement session. All that communication leads to a deeper connection - one where I really see you and you feel at home being seen.

The quality that stood out to me the most about Mackensey was her desire to get to know her clients on a deeper level. From the very first time we met her for coffee, I could see her passion for people shining forth. Her motto is quality over quantity and, oh my, does she deliver on the “quality” aspect of that phrase! She treats her clients as more than just a dollar amount or another wedding to check off of a list, she treats her clients like family.

Mackensey was absolutely incredible to work with as my wedding photographer. As soon as a friend of mine sent me her website I KNEW we had to have her capture our special day. She was the first vendor we hired and by far the easiest to work with. Mackensey isn’t just professional, responsive, kind, and easy to work with- she is intuitive, passionate, has an incredibly keen eye for detail, and just an all around wonderful person. She and her second shooter and assistant were so lovely to be around on the wedding day. The happy, grounded energy made my fiancé and I feel so at ease the entire time. She was prepared in ways I would have never thought of!  Gio and I feel so lucky to walk away with both an amazing wedding day, and a friend.

To my husband and I, there was no more important decision than finding the right person to capture our day. We definitely chose the right person. Mackensey's photos are so unique and have a raw-quality about them, which made her an instant favorite when scouring portfolios. After speaking to her, I knew it was right. She was friendly, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to provide us with recommendations. We were so nervous for our engagement photos, but Mackensey put us at ease and it was great to get to meet her prior to the wedding so we could see her style and she could learn more about us. When she showed up on the wedding day it was like seeing friend walk in. I very highly recommend Mackensey if you're looking for someone to beautifully document your day. She's a magician.

ALEXA AND DYLAN, married at charles h. morris center

Mackensey was the first person we hired for our wedding and one of the most cherished members of our wedding team by a landslide! Her work is truly an art and I still sit in awe as we look back at the beauty she captured on our special day. She was the most calming presence from our engagement shoot to the moment she walked into our bridal house on our big day. Even in the moments of the inevitable chaos, her sincerity and the ease with which she does her work ensured we were focused on enjoying our big day while she managed to capture every detail in the most amazing way. Her ability to capture the authenticity and emotion in each and every moment never ceases to amaze me. I would spend every penny a hundred times over to continue to cherish the moments she captured on our wedding day. She is so much more than a photographer and I cannot recommend her enough!

HOLLY and TYLER, married at the georgia state railroad museum

Mackensey as a person is just a joy to work with. She exudes a calm that makes coordinating and planning all that much easier in the midst of the chaos of our wedding. It was the first time either myself or my husband had ever been professionally photographed and Mackensey made the entire experience fun. We laughed, we had intimate moments, and after our engagement shoot we literally felt like we had just been on a date - feeling even more excited about our adventure and our upcoming nuptials than we had before.  Since receiving our photos we have gotten incredible feedback, and wow, we felt like models - great work! Mackensey will add to your experience if you are considering hiring for an event. As a queer couple we were so honored to have someone who was open-minded and shared our values of inclusivity. Our love shines so much brighter in our pictures because we had the right photographer behind the camera.

Mackensey is so gifted at the art of photography. Her artistic ability goes above-and-beyond to capture all dimensions of the beauty of the special moments in your life. Hiring her for my wedding was one of the best decisions I made. She is so professional, calming, and savvy at what she does. I had a worry-free, fun, and happy experience having her as our photographer. The photos she took were GORGEOUS with highest quality artistry

let's connect

A lot of people think that engagement photos are just a trendy thing that everyone does to celebrate their engagement or send out save the dates, but in reality the most beneficial reason to do an engagement session is to have a practice run with your photographer. It always takes people a while to warm up in front of the camera, so come your wedding day you will feel like a seasoned professional and will be more able to be present in the moment. I always suggest that you work with the same photographer for your engagement and wedding photos whenever possible!

Although it probably sounds great to take home 2000 wedding photos, trust me, too many photos is extremely overwhelming. I make sure to capture the essence of your session or event without bombarding you with unnecessary out takes. I guarantee my clients 50 shots per hour, which is plenty to tell a story and create a beautiful album.

A 50% retainer and signed contract is required in order to get your wedding day on the calendar. Two weeks prior to your wedding, the remainder of the balance is due.

Within 10 weeks of your wedding I provide all of my clients with an online gallery where all of your edited, high resolution images will be displayed. Clients are able to choose their own photos for printing, share the images with their loved ones, or download digital files. Depending on your wedding package, soon after your gallery is delivered you will also receive a custom USB drive and slide box with 20 prints of your choice.

I allow clients to choose their favorite 20-30 images by creating a "favorites" list through your online gallery. I carefully design each album to tell the story of your wedding day. Each couple gets one round of adjustments to their album layout.

I am located in Savannah, Georgia but I LOVE to travel! I am frequently in Los Angeles and Brooklyn, but I will travel anywhere. Stay connected with me on social media or visit my website to sign up for my newsletter to follow my travel dates. I am also available to shoot at retreats, and you won't have to beg me to hard to come on vacation with you. Reach out for a custom travel quote!

A “First Look” is when a couple decides to see each other before the wedding ceremony. Although this goes against most old traditions, it has become a new tradition for many couples. What I notice is that couples who do a first look seem much more relaxed throughout the entire wedding day. Most of the time this allows us to do all of the portraits before the ceremony, which then allows the couple to have more time after to be apart of the festivities. If you are a laid back couple who doesn’t want to be stressed for time I highly recommend considering this option!
